According to the Jerusalem Post, it appears Irish Jews are not important to their country. Comprising of less than 1 percent of the Irish population, the current census does not include a distinct checkbox for Jews in the religion category. Censuses before 2002 included Jewish as a choice, but now contain only seven choices with a box for “Other”.
It is not believed that there is any anti-Jewish intent in the decision.
Fresh off the heels of Google pandering to Chinese demands to self-censor in exchange for access to the 1.2 billion strong Chinese market (see here and here), Google has found itself in another battle. It appears as though Google has now made another “mistake” - it is using, Al Manar, the terrorist group Hezbollah’s news service as a feed in Google News.
According to the Counterterrorism Blog, Google has made some shady selections when it comes to their new sources. They seem to be rejecting some with the excuse that they “do not include sites that contain hate speech”. Anybody who has been paying attention to the Middle East in the last 15 years knows that Hezbollah spews garbage as hateful as can be. They portray Jews as child-killers, blood drinkers and other lovely characters. Is it really appropriate for Google to view Al Manar as a reliable news service?

Jewhad was created in response to anti-Jewish hatred. Anti-Jewish sentiment is not new - it has been happening for about 3500 year - since the beginning of Jewish history. While early Jewish history had some incidence of fighting, it is known that Jews fought very little between the destruction of the Second Temple (73 CE) and the creation of the State of Israel (in 1948). We have learned from our history that often “the pen is mightier than the sword”.
While the Jews of Israel were forced to fight for their survival from 1948 (and continue to fight for their survival today), Jews in the Diaspora have carried on the pacifist nature of our ancestors, at least when it comes to physically fighting. We continue to have to fight a war of ideas, against those whose irrational hatred of Jews infects the minds of those ignorant of Judaism and Jewish history. History has shown the world that irrational hatred has led to mass slaughter of Jews and others during the Holocaust and other genocides. We intend to educate our fellow human beings and help them fight hatred.
Our choice of our website name is obviously a play on the word “Jihad” - want to show the world the Jewish way of fighting Jihad - by reasoning and loving all humankind.
